Information for graduating students

Your IT account

If you're graduating in December 2024, your IT account will close on Monday 6 January 2025, and there will be changes to the services you can access.

If you are staying on at the University on another programme, or have already started another role at the University, you will retain access to your IT account. See the "Staying on?" section towards the end of this message for more details.

Microsoft 365, including your University email address (your.name@student.manchester.ac.uk)

You will no longer have access to Microsoft 365 services, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneDrive and your University email. You should forward or transfer any emails you want to keep to a non-University email account before your account closes.

Note that your data will be deleted, and IT Services will not be able to recover your data shortly after your account is closed. It is very important that you transfer any files or emails before your account closes.

Blackboard

Once your account is closed, you won’t be able to access your Blackboard course materials.

Network and OneDrive storage

You should save any files you want to keep from your personal network storage space (P: drive) or OneDrive to an alternative location.

Services available to you

The Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DDAR) are here to:

  • Help you stay connected with the University;
  • Connect you with other alumni who can help with your career and next steps;
  • Help you access services like Library E-resources that permit alumni access, and the Careers Service.

To make sure that DDAR can help you, please tell them about any changes to your contact details in the student system before your IT account closes. After your account closes, use the change your personal details form to stay in touch with the University.

You can continue to use the Careers Service's full range of services for two years after the end of your course. Continue to use your student credentials to log into CareerConnect. Once they stop working, you can create a graduate CareerConnect account to search for vacancies, appointments and events. Don’t forget to also join The University of Manchester Recent Graduate Careers Network on LinkedIn.

You can contact the Careers service via online chat and CareerConnect 'queries'.

Other useful Careers resources:

You can use the Library facilities after you have graduated. All you need to do is visit the Customer Service Desk at the Main Library (Monday to Friday, 8am to 7.45pm, or weekends from 9am-4.45pm), fill in a form and a member of staff will process the membership application.

To access your digital transcripts after you have left, you will need to access Digitary CORE using your preferred personal email account, not your University account. If you are due to graduate in the upcoming graduation period, please be aware that your documents will only be made available on Digitary CORE after the date of your graduation ceremony.

Staying on?

If you are staying on at the University on another programme, or have already started another role at the University, you will retain access to your IT account for as long as you're at the University.

Contact your school office if you have any questions about your leave date. You should also contact your school office if you would like to amend your application contact email to a personal email account.

If you are planning to return to the University at a later date (for example, as a Postgraduate or member of staff), your IT account will be reactivated with the same username. Ensure you use a personal email address with your application, as your email address will only be re-accessible after you have been accepted on to your new course or employed. Note that if there are more than 30 days between your account closure and its reactivation, then your old emails will not be accessible.
