Personal file storage
All students and staff are automatically provided with personal IT storage space for saving your files. This space is referred to as ‘My Documents’ within My Manchester and is also known as the P: Drive.
All files stored on a P: Drive are duplicated at separate physical locations which provide mechanisms for recovering accidentally deleted files. This is a very secure method of storing important files.
Students currently receive 2GB of quota and this can be combined with a 7GB SkyDrive storage space, for less important files.
The size of the P: Drive for members of staff varies between faculties and the current status of your IT accounts but new members of staff are provided with 2GB of storage.
A number of files and folders are automatically created in every P: Drive space. These folders should not be deleted or renamed but new folders to manage new files can be created.
Files on personal storage space can be accessed in a number of different ways:
- By logging on to a PC on campus - this includes PC clusters for students and registered PCs in offices for staff (in PC Clusters the My Documents icon on the desktop is a short cut to the P: drive)
- Online via My Manchester in the My Documents portlet on the Home tab
- Through the P: drives on the web interface:
Note: Personal storage space for Computer Science students is also available on the school’s Unix, Linux and Windows 7 file servers. See the Computer Science intranet for more information.
