Mailing lists

University students and staff can create email mailing lists for announcements and discussion groups.

Recipients on a mailing list are contacted via a single email address. When an email is sent to the mailing list the message will automatically be copied to all email recipients on the list.

There is no maximum number of email addresses which can be added to a mailing list. There are a number of standard mailing lists to which subscriptions is automatic, such as the ‘all staff’ and ‘all student’ list, contain a large numbers of email recipients.

Mailing lists end in a @listserv.manchester.ac.uk address and every list has a list owner. The owner maintains the list options and subscribers.

Messages sent to large list (such as the all-staff list) are moderated. There are guidelines for posting to large mailing lists.
