Document scanning (Kofax)
Kofax software provides image capture, process management to accept customer communications through multiple input paths such as by paper, fax or email. The University mainly uses Kofax for its scanning directly into SharePoint. Although Kofax can in theory route documents to any system which has a kofax release script.
The University has a license for 3 million scans per year and has 15 licences to scan concurrently to the kofax server. The most frequently used batch class is the Passports and Visa class which scans approximately 15,000 documents each year.
Kofax is used with SharePoint Team Areas as a platform for the direct scanning system. Kofax is available to all staff at request via the IT Support Centre The service requires a Kofax compatible scanner. It is restricted to 15 concurrent licences but can have up to 100 users as long as it is not in use at the same time.
